MWH Spotlight with Tamara Lynam of Cambridge Weight Plan

Welcome to the blog Tamara from Cambridge Weight Plan! We’re thrilled to have you here sharing your journey on the MWH Spotlight!

Describe yourself in 3 words

Compassionate, Organised & Supportive.

How do you juggle being a Mum and having a biz?

It can be difficult at times as even though I work from home, I often have clients from 7:30 a.m. until as late as 8:00 p.m.  My 16-year-old daughter is an amazing help, and often ends up cooking dinner when I am seeing clients. I also have a 12-year-old daughter, and a 19-year-old son.

My kids are all very independent and responsible. They respect the time I have with my clients, and how I support them. I always have Sundays off & this tends to be our “family day.” On Wednesdays we all sit down to dinner together. If my children were still young, it would obviously be a lot more of a struggle to juggle things.

Tell us about your biz and WHY you do what you do

I am an Independent Weight Loss Consultant with Cambridge Weight Plan (CWP). When I first heard about CWP was after I bumped into my support worker at the foster care agency that I was fostering for. I hadn’t seen her for over 6 months, we’d just spoken on the telephone. When I saw her I didn’t recognise her as in this time she had managed to lose 50kg! I started my own plan the very next day and managed to lose the 10kg that had weighed me down for years in just 8 weeks. And yes, I had tried absolutely every other diet out there!

I loved the plan so much that I decided to become a consultant myself & went to Melbourne to do my training. That was around 4-years-ago now, and I haven’t looked back as I have never found a job so rewarding. I absolutely love being able to help people change their lives – not just in regards to their weight – but also some serious medical conditions and their general mindset. My clients see me weekly for weigh-ins, measurements, support, and to collect their products. It can be an emotional journey. I have laughed and cried with many of my clients, but I would not have it any other way.

If you could go back in time and offer advice to your former entrepreneur-self what would you say?

Jump out of your comfort zone!  I was so scared of doing this and putting myself out there, but now there is no stopping me! It really is where the magic happens.

What does success mean to you?

Success to me is when my clients reach their goal weight, start to believe in themselves and when their health improves. I may not have a medical degree, but I know I am saving lives.

What has been your hardest lesson learned?

Self-doubt was something that was hard to overcome. It took practise and constant reaffirming to myself that I could achieve my goals. It was a difficult lesson but developing a belief in myself and my potential to fulfill my dreams has been the most rewarding lesson yet and the most empowering.

Finish this sentence – If I wasn’t my own boss right now I’d be…

…incomplete. Right now I feel like this is exactly where I am meant to be, and I honestly couldn’t be happier.

What are you most proud of to date?

This year, I was presented with the Cambridge Weight Plan Consultant of the Year Award for Australia. I am so incredibly honoured to have won this considering how many amazing consultants we have.

It would also have to be my client Paul Nugent’s success. When I first met him a year ago – he was literally a walking time bomb. Now he has managed to lose 72kg with me. He has come off his insulin injections, blood pressure tablets, osteoarthritis tablets, his sleep apnea mask and his cholesterol is now perfect!  I have managed to get him featured on TV, in a local newspaper, Woman’s Day, Diabetic Living, The Queensland Times, The Daily Mail, Kidspot & That’s Life!  Every time he walks into his doctor’s surgery, his doctor shakes his head as he can’t believe he's the same person. At our awards ceremony this year he was announced our Slimmer of the Year for Australia, and we will both be heading to the UK and Paris in November, where he will be competing in the International Slimmer of the Year against several other countries.

I can’t explain how much it means to me to be in a position where I am able to help people in this way.

Fun facts about you:

Facebook or Instagram? Can I say “both”? It used to be Facebook, but I find IG a great way of reaching out to more people.
Favourite TV show? Game of Thrones, Vanderpump Rules (I know it’s sad!) and Orphan Black
Coffee or tea? Skinny chai lattes – I was never a coffee or tea drinker until last July when I became addicted to these (although I do limit myself to one per day).
Channing Tatum or Ryan Gosling? Mmm Channing!

A random fact about yourself….

I almost died when I was 19 as a car ran me over when I was riding my bike to work!
