Affiliate Disclaimer: I feel like we all know how affiliates work these days, but basically, if you join the CCC I may receive a payment. Which is brilliant!

Now, I hope you’re in the mood to take a little action today because this week’s episode is going to see you creating compelling copy that converts without being salesy.

And what better person to walk us through good copywriting than the queen of copy herself, Jay Crisp Crow!

In her old life, Jay juggled a family, a disability, and a communications job that sucked the juice from her bones. Then she had firm words with herself, found her voice, and took her own gig on the road. Through Crisp Copy, Jay writes blow-your-hair-back premium copy for brands, big and small, and teaches women in business how to write copy that sells through coaching, consulting, and courses.

Some days she runs a business just as a middle-finger to everyone who said she couldn't make a living writing or tells her she charges too much. Don't judge. Motivation is different for everyone.

During this episode, Jay is going to share precisely what makes good copy, 5 tips you can implement today, and what someone should look for when outsourcing their copywriting.

Let’s get into it!

ABOUT TODAY’S GUEST:

>> [2:06] In her old life, Jay juggled a family, a disability, and a communications job that sucked the juice from her bones. Then she had firm words with herself, found her voice, and took her own gig on the road.

>> [2:50] Some days she runs a business just as a middle-finger to everyone who said she couldn't make a living writing or tells her she charges too much. Don't judge. Motivation is different for everyone.

>> [3:23] During this episode, Jay is going to share precisely what makes good copy, 5 tips you can implement today, and what someone should look for when outsourcing their copywriting.

WHAT DOES JAY DO?

>> [7:04] Jay is an Australian based conversational conversion copywriter for brave business women around the world and copy coach to wannabe word nerds.

>> [8:33] Her purpose lies in helping and teaching women by writing heart-pulling, belly-snagging, powerful copy for brands and business owners who are brave enough to convert.

>> [11:22] Conversational conversion copy is not manipulative. It’s telling a story and then offering someone something.

>> [14:15] Jay was terrified when she started her business; however, it changed her life! She went from a scared, small woman to owning all the parts of her. Her business Crisp Copy was the catalyst to start that change.

>> [17:30] Jay took her sweet time easing into her business. She had to find resources and other businesswomen and ways that worked for her so she could financially support her family while creating the business she’d always dreamed of.

>> [18:51] Jay loves people, but then she wants to speak to no one for a week.

WHY YOU SHOULD EMBRACE NICHING

>> [21:47] Sometimes business owners have a distinct fear of niching because they believe it will limit their potential revenue and reach. However, that’s not true.

  • When you speak to everybody, no one feels special.
  • You want people to feel special and that they don’t have to hunt for someone like you anymore.

>> [23:57] Repeat back what they said to you to ensure you're on the same page. That's how you can get on the same page with your target audience.

  • “I hear that you just said this…”

5 COPYWRITING TIPS

>> [25:19] These five tips can improve your copy, instantly.

  • Everybody feels like they’re going to move into a noisy room. Sound like you, and you will be heard above all others. Learn to sell yourself, and don’t be an echo of everyone else.
  • Writing is a doing word, you can learn everything available on Google but if you don’t write, you’re not going to get any better at it.
  • Copywriting is different from content writing – it’s more than informing and educating. Everyone is worried copywriting is about creativity, and if they don’t feel creative, they don’t have the confidence to write to sell. Copywriting is actually equal parts creative (brand voice), structure, and data. Sounds less sexy but converts better.
  • Ask for the sale. Conversion copywriting – where your clicky finger gets tingly and you want to buy something – happens when we’re clearly steered towards taking an action.
  • The power is always in the edit. First drafts are meant to be vomits.

INVESTING IN A COPYWRITER

>> [36:49] When investing in a copywriter, there are five things you need to know.

  • Know what you want.
  • Understand what copywriting is.
  • When you find an expert, you need to ask all the right questions, give your copywriter everything they need.
  • Then step back, don’t micromanage and trust them to do the job.
  • Give them feedback, but be patient.

>> [41:06] When you learn how to DIY your own copy, you get a firmer understanding of your own brand.

>> [42:40] You can find Jay online at www.crispcopy.com.au and www.crispcrow.com.au. She’s also on Instagram at @crispcopy.
